PAINTING WITH MINERAL PIGMENTS
Discover the raw beauty of natural pigments in this immersive workshop focused on painting practices with mineral and earth pigments.
We will begin with an introduction to the history of pigments and a presentation of works created with minerals, followed by practical experimentation with gouache, acrylic and mineral pigments on different surfaces - paper, fabric, jute and canvas.
You will learn:

How to grind and prepare minerals for use as pigments

Color application techniques with brushes and spatulas

How to work with monochrome palettes and layers of earthy tones
This workshop invites you to slow down and get in touch with the materiality of color.

Franka Struys (Rotterdam, 1966) studied painting at Ar.Co in Lisbon and has a master's degree in Economics from Erasmus University. Before devoting himself entirely to art, he worked for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague and Tanzania. Since 2013, her work has been exhibited in Portugal and the Netherlands, in municipal and private collections in Portugal, the Netherlands and the UK. She has participated in artist residencies at RAMA (2021) and is confirmed for Cortex Frontal (2025). Living in Colares since 1998, she finds her main source of inspiration in nature and conducts workshops on the use of natural mineral pigments in painting techniques. Recent highlights include the solo exhibition Mother Earth (Lisbon, 2024), the collaborative project Scorched Earth (Cascais, 2024) and participation in group exhibitions such as Air current (Lisbon) and Ever Emerging during Amsterdam Art Week. |
