The Back of the House, with Luiza Baldan

Workshop already underway

THE BACK OF THE HOUSE is an online course that proposes an immersion in the memory of inhabited spaces - especially childhood homes - as a way of understanding how we perceive and create space today. Through texts, images and creative exercises, we explore memory as fabulation and a starting point for artistic practice.

In four online meetings, we will bring together photographic texts and verbal images. The proposal is based on the principle that memory is never pure: it is always crossed by the present. Each time we return to an image from the past, it is mediated by the gaze we have today, by the language that runs through us now, by the experiences we have accumulated over time.

The course is based on reading works such as The Poetics of Space and The Poetics of Reverie, by Gaston Bachelard, the master's research of the artist Luiza Baldan (Places that Inhabit Places), as well as texts by Brazilian authors such as Graciliano Ramos, Ana Martins Marques, Adélia Prado, Cora Coralina, Manoel de Barros, among others.

The course culminates in a pop-up exhibition at the Coletivo Amarelo Gallery in Lisbon, with the participation of 1 work per member.
