Set of 10 acrylic boxes with photographs and different collected materials.
The piece Stratigraphies references a geological discipline that describes layers of rock and their stratification, and offers a first point of contact with the skin of the earth and the multiple ways of categorizing Non-Life. Composed of several acrylic boxes of different sizes stacked on top of each other, Loyola's Stratigraphies contain photographs of landscapes captured by the artist on her travels through Portugal and collected materials - rocks, industrial metal remains and discontinued geological categorization and exhibition boxes of the Geological Museum of Lisbon. Approaching time in several dimensions (geological, industrial and museum), the artist invites us to move and reorganize the acrylic boxes like layers of sediment, making us active agents in the process of constructing visual representations of the inert.
