Osias Andre is from Mozambique, immigrated to Portugal in 2018, where he won 3 scholarships from the independent art school Ar.Co, an institution dedicated to experimentation and artistic training. Osias began painting at the age of 8 and began his artistic career through graphic illustration, producing a collection of books. For him, illustration offered a more immediate and direct sensation to the viewer, while painting demands a slower and more indirect digestion. The territories that Osias inhabited, from the institution that sheltered him as an orphan when he was a child, to the paths that led him to Lisbon, have always had an impact on his creative process. Bodies, flowers and shapes emerged in his work, building compositions that reflect a delicate yet unusual beauty. The silhouettes are colorful and the contours classic, revealing the sensibilities of uncharted territory. Osias' paintings also offer the opportunity to see bodily figures in a way in which their identities are disengaged from gender. Identity is not found in the bodies themselves, but in what exists beyond what they represent.
Osias currently lives and works in Lisbon.
