The blue and red contrast in the feathers of Anacã makes it easy to recognize it in the crowns of Amazonian trees. Unfortunately, this same combination attracts other interests as well: Deroptyus accipitrinus is a highly sought after bird in the wildlife trade. In this work, the penetrating look surrounded by intense colors must be seen as a warning about the lack of protection of biodiversity. The registered bird was rescued from animal trafficking and lives in a rehabilitation institution for wild animals. Anacã is also listed in the Red Book of Endangered Brazilian Fauna (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation / MMA; 1st Ed., 2018).
